<span style="display:inline-block;border:none;padding:0cm"><font style="font-size:10pt" size="2"><font style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"><font face="Calibri, sans-serif">O estudo de superfícies constitui uma área multidisciplinar e de fronteira para ciência, congregando
temas que vão desde a nanociência até problemas de interesse industrial e econômico, como o desenvolvimento de novos catalisadores.
</font><font style="color: rgb(36, 36, 36);">A superfície de um sólido é única, podendo apresentar propriedades diferentes do interior do sólido, e está
</font><font style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">sempre propensa a reagir. Neste colóquio, vamos discutir o fenômeno da adsorção, processo no qual átomos interagem com uma superfície em condições controladas de temperatura e pressão, podendo reagir quimicamente e
formar padrões ordenados sobre a superfície. Para a nossa discussão, serão introduzidos alguns conceitos fundamentais para a adsorção, bem como a técnica de espectroscopia de raios-X em pressões próximas a ambiente (NAP-XPS) que permite acompanhar a evolução
espectroscópica da superfície durante uma reação. Os conceitos introduzidos serão ilustrados em dois casos particulares: (i) na adsorção de H</font><font style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"><sub>2</sub></font><font style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">O em superfícies de
óxido de manganês, onde estamos interessados em investigar a reatividade deste material e (ii) na adsorção de CO</font><font style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"><sub>2</sub></font><font style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"> em óxido de cobre, processo de grande interesse
